MRI & CT Imaging
Veterinary Specialists of the Valley is proud to offer state of the art MRI services. With the diagnostic abilities of a MRI, we can identify the true nature of your pet's problem, giving you peace of mind and allowing us to more effectively treat your pet.
What is MRI
Through MRI imaging, our doctors see soft tissues such as the brain or spinal cord, joints, and cardiovascular structures in even better detail than with radiographs or CT-scan. MRI scanning is a safe diagnostic imaging tool.
Magnet strength
MRI's are measured in Tesla (magnetic strength). VSV has a 1.0 Tesla magnet. It is the same type of magnet that is still used in many human hospitals today. Due to our magnet size, we achieve a better quality of image at a faster scan time. Any magnet that is 1.0 Tesla or stronger is considered to be a "high feld" magnet.
Can I be in the room during the MRI?
Unfortunately we cannot accommodate this request. However, your pet’s wellbeing is very important to us. We will prepare and care for your pet during the MRI with the same discipline and seriousness of any complex surgical procedure. It is especially important to avoid interruptions and possible distractions to allow our staff to fully concentrate on caring for your pet and performing the MRI expediently and properly. The MRI will be completed much more rapidly when only trained staff is present. Of course, you are welcome to wait in our offices during the procedure. We will be happy to let you be with your pet as soon as he or she wakes up for anesthesia.
When do I get results?
The average scan can take between 30–60 minutes to perform. The duration may be longer or shorter depending on the area(s) of the pet that are imaged. Once complete, all images will be submitted to a board certified veterinary radiologist for interpretation.
Your VSV doctor and your family veterinarian will be given a written report of the radiologist’s findings within 24 hours of the scan.
